Welcome to
Cabri Creamery

A petite, French-style goat dairy in Northern Colorado, offering artisanal cheese and raw milk shares.

Herdshare Memberships

To access milk and cheese from our herd, you must join our herdshare program.

Colorado uses the herdshare program to distribute raw milk (think of it like a dairy CSA). The herdshare membership is a $30 lifetime fee, which represents an interest in our herd. Once a herdshare member, you pay a “boarding fee” and in exchange, receive milk or cheese services. Our boarding fee cycles run for eight weeks (you may choose to renew or stop boarding), with the exception of à la carte shares.

  • Milk distribution begins in May and runs through December. Cheese distribution starts in June and runs through November.

    Milk Share Dates (8-wk cycle):

May 5th - June 27th : delivery paused during the week of July 4th; à la carte orders available.

    July 7th - August 29th

About Cabri Creamery

Kristin Maxwell
owner, head shepherdess and cheesemaker

In 2013 I became interested in dairy goats and sought to learn the trade from anyone that would teach me. My curiosity led me to creameries around the U.S. and France, making unforgettable friends (goats and humans alike) and gaining priceless experiences.

I started shepherding my own herd 2021, thanks to Poudre Valley Community Farms, providing ecological grazing services to the City of Fort Collins. We moved our herd north of Wellington in 2024, where we now share acreage with Here and Now Farm.

Cabri translates to “kid” in French (as in goat kid). Our creamery is inspired by the pastoral cheesemaking traditions of rural France, where shepherds closely tend both their animals and their craft. Et oui; our goats are our family! We care for our small herd of American Alpine, Nigerian dwarf, and mini Alpine goats with their wellbeing in mind. When you consume our dairy products, you are supporting exceptionally thoughtful and humane livestock practices.

Cabri Creamery is committed to allowing our goats the freedom to browse! Native grasses and forbs make up a large part of their diet, which lends a lovely “goût de terroir” to their milk and our cheese.

Life in Our Herd

Growing up on a Colorado beef cattle ranch, I have been in livestock production my entire life. I value the agricultural connection of human beings to a place, its creatures, and the broader ecosystem that links us all.

Our herd began with American Alpine and Nigerian Dwarf breeds. Nigerian Dwarfs are from Africa and Alpines originally from Switzerland and France. Alpines are hardy and playful and are high volume milk producers; Nigerian Dwarfs are goofy and relaxed and their milk contains high butterfat (6-7 percent). The offspring from these breeds are considered Mini Alpines.

Because I am a Francophone at heart - and learned much about dairying in France - all my females have French names. My males have names from Harry Potter or Star Wars, because I am a nerd for these stories.

Our herds’ daily routine starts with early morning milking and goat cuddles. Milking does are fed herbicide-free alfalfa hay and a local dairy grain from Cache La Poudre Feeds. As they freely graze throughout the day, the goats eat additional forbs, leaves and native grasses. We complete each day with evening milking and more cuddles before calling it bonne nuit (good night).

Come visit the farm and meet the goats! We invite people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with the French spirit of pastoralism.
